Services

The Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and the Annunciation, Oxford, is shared between the Greek Community of the Holy Trinity (often referred to as the Greek Parish), which follows the Greek Liturgical Tradition and the Orthodox Parish of the Annunciation, which follows the Russian Liturgical Tradition. The Divine Liturgy is celebrated every Sunday. The services are shared between the parishes with each parish taking the lead in services in turn. A mixture of languages are used, so for example a service which is classed as being “in English” will be predominantly in English but will also be partly in Greek and partly in Slavonic, and often other languages will feature too. This rich mixture of language and traditions gives the church a unique character.

The services take the following pattern:

  • First Sunday of the month: Greek Tradition, mostly in Greek
  • Second Sunday of the month: Russian Tradition, in English and Slavonic
  • Third Sunday of the month: Greek Tradition, mostly in English
  • Fourth Sunday of the month: Russian Tradition, in English and Slavonic.
